I thought I was going to go in a different direction with my post today but, in lieu of the tragic news that most woke up to this morning,  I have decided to focus on a deeper post. I was stunned when I found the news alerts on my phone this morning about the “Concert Massacre” and then it became more real when I received texts from two different girlfriends saying they both had family members at the concert. By the grace of God alone, their loved one’s lives were spared and they have the opportunity to remember that day as a tragedy but not their final moments.

I will be transparent in saying that I do not understand the evil that can grow in man’s heart making it possible to bring them to a conclusion of willfully ending others lives. I know from talking with friends throughout today, and from conversations during previous tragic events, it seems as if it always comes to the same conclusion that satan is alive, flexing his muscles of evil and continuing to create choas all around us. He is not prejudiced when he strikes, but he is strategic looking to cause as much harm and strife as possible when he does. It’s in these moments when my heart and mind start spinning with the “why’s of evil doings” that the only true comfort that can be found during these horrible tragedies is the seemingly constant reminder that this world is not our home.

I think it is so important to acknowledge the hurt and tragedy in these moments. We are to mourn with the mourning, and weep with those who weep. That is God’s call for myself and my family, as Christians, to sympathize with and to extend love to all who are hurting and pray for them. So today, I do that with all my heart and encourage all who read this to do so as well.

If this event has reminded you of anything, I hope it is that our lives are not guaranteed and the only peace that can come from this broken world is knowing the love of Christ and that one day he will call us home to live with Him in heaven. My hope and prayer is that we can all use this terrible tragedy to grow closer to each other, to love one another deeper, and seek to understand one another in love.
