3 Favorite Ways To Style Pleated Skirts

Sweater | Pleated Skirt, similar one in Blue | Heels | Purse, similar dupe here! |  Sunglasses, similar dupe here!

You may have noticed my love for pleated skirts already but for anyone new to the blog (YAY! Welcome!), I’m a sucker for a great pleated skirt! They are my go-to when I want to play up a more feminine look. I also love that you can dress them up or down, depending on the occasion. You can really get a lot of bang for your buck when it comes to skirts if you know how to style them…which I love, because I am always trying to work with my budget to stretch it further and buy clothing pieces I can mix and match is key! So I wanted to share some of my favorite ways to wear pleated skirts + give some great outfit combos you can shop to help create your own pleated skirt style!

Look #1: Dress It Up!

This first look is one of my favorites! In my day-to-day wardrobe I tend to be pretty neutral and not overly girly which I think that’s why I love this look so much! Dressing up a skirt with heels and a great sweater or blouse makes you instantly feel more confident and feminine! Even if pleated skirts aren’t your thing, I definitely suggest you finding something that makes you feel pretty and lady-like because it’s so good for you to switch it up every once in a while as a reminder to yourself that you still got it… which just in case you are thinking otherwise – you do still got it! So add a little more hip-sway into that strut of yours and glam it up next date night or girls night!

My favorite tips in dressing up this outfit:

– Pair it with a top that is chic and simple. This can be a crisp white blouse tucked in, which is a timeless and sophisticated look. Or try pairing it with a sweater (like I did here) that has a little detail to it – like the pearls.

-Add a great heel. It can be a great pump or a strappy sandal- just make sure its enough of a heel to help elongate your legs. I prefer a higher and slimmer stiletto over a block heel for this look.

-Add a great clutch. Think less is more, whether you want to do a hand-held clutch or a small understated cross body. I love adding a metallic clutch to these types of looks. If you’re not sure about a bag it’s always best to think small – You don’t want to have a huge tote or shoulder bag overshadowing the fabulous outfit you just created!

-Add some jewelry. My opinion with jewelry is go for the understated – don’t wear anything too heavy that could take away from your look. I suggest a stud earring like this. Or if you wear a button down try something delicate for a necklace to keep it chic.

Look #2: Wearing it Casual

I love a great casual look with a pleated skirt. Add a great cotton tank, some wedge sandals or flip flops, throw on a sun hat and you are instantly owning that effortless “oh I just threw this together” look. This is a great daytime look to wear with your favorite straw tote if you are headed to the farmers market or running errands. Or pair it with a cross body if you’re running into town and need something smaller. I absolutely LOVE these earrings for this type of look – they are part of Betsy Pittards new Spring line! They are gorgeous on and so light-weight you forget you’re wearing them!

Look #3: Going Sporty Spice

So I call this look “sporty spice” because on the rare occasion when I wear tennis shoes, I always feel like Mel C from spice girls…. which I am not ashamed of because I love her. Anyone else still listening to them on their workout playlists with me?!? Alllllll about that life!

To accomplish this look I love adding a great understated white sneaker with a cute graphic tee tucked in. If its a little chilly still outside I will throw a blue jean jacket over my shoulders and you are good to go! I also love tying my hair up with a fun hair ribbon that has a pop of color to add a little more girly-ness to this more sporty look!

No matter what look you are going for the #1 most important thing is that you feel confident in it. Obviously for me, pairing a skirt with sneakers isn’t my most natural combination BUT I love the look on other ladies and therefore give myself some grace to try a new style! Fashion and trends are so fun to experiment with and you are NEVER too old or set in your style to try something else! So don’t over criticize yourself or worry about what other people think… you just do you girl and remember being confident in yourself is the best style of all! (cheesy, slightly…true, absolutely!)
